Alongside oily and junk food, regular consumption of dairy is yet another reason why most folks are getting chronically sick. Even the leading clinical researchers at some of the most prestigious universities are now openly questioning the virtue of having dairy as a regular part of our diet.
What are some of the reasons one should avoid dairy?
a. Dairy is loaded with unhealthy Fat. Over 45% of the calories in milk & yogurt comes from fat while in cheese, over 70% of the calories are from fat (most of it saturated fat). Fat in dairy plays a significant role in increasing the weight, clogging the arteries as well as raising cholesterol levels.
b. Over 20 % of the calories in dairy comes from proteins. Contrary to what we have been told by the dairy industry ($ 400 Billion world wide), our bodies are not designed to efficiently utilize the proteins from animal sources. This fact is especially true in case of dairy. Based on the landmark “China Study” by Dr. T. Collin Campbell, casein (protein) from cow's milk are linked with the growth of many types of cancers.
c. Just as human milk is for humans, cow's milk is for its calves. It contains specific growth hormones (IGF-1) that allows them to grow from few pounds to hundreds of pounds in just few months. In humans, it does the same but to a great detriment to our health. As a specie, we are not suppose to grow that fast. Have you noticed how kids are reaching puberty at a much younger age now.
d. Most folks do not know this fact but over 70% of antibiotics that are sold in the world today are for the consumption of live stock. Hence, when we consume the meat and dairy, we indirectly consume the antibiotics that were given to them. As we now know, Antibiotics cause all sort of GUT related and auto-immune health issues.
e. Consumption of dairy results in build up of mucus in the body. Various endogenous and exogenous toxins get stuck in this mucus thus causing all sorts of acute discomfort. Children and adults that use dairy regularly have much higher instances of cold, cough and flu symptoms compared to those who do not.
f. Consumption of dairy (especially pasteurized dairy) is a major cause of seasonal allergies. Both my daughter and I used to have very bad allergies to pollen. As soon as we took out the dairy, our allergies went away as if they were never there.
g. Due to Industry hype and misinformation, milk is recommended for building strong bones. However, if we take a closer look we will see that taking in dairy doesn't equate stronger bones. In countries like china (most populated country in the world), the intake of dairy including milk, yogurt, cheese, butter etc. is extremely low, yet they have the lowest rates of “Bone related” health problems such as osteoporosis and fractures. On the other hand, places where huge intake of dairy is found, (USA, India, Europe) the rates of osteoporosis and bones fractures are a lot higher.
h. Dairy products (especially milk, ice cream, cheese etc) are acidic in nature and when consumed regularly creates low-grade acidosis in the body. To balance out the acids, the body pulls the calcium (most abundant alkalizing mineral) from the bones. When it happens over a period of time, it leaves the bones weak and prone to fractures and osteoporosis. It also puts a huge load on our kidneys as they are ultimately responsible for excreting out these acids.
I. Last but certainly not least, this is not the same dairy as our forefathers consumed. The cows that are found in dairy farm's now are specially bred for their high yield of milk. Over 70% of the people in the world are now considered lactose intolerant as lack the enzymes required to break the proteins found in the cow's milk.
