Bowel Moving Smoothie

As the name suggests, this nutrient packed smoothie is designed to gently help move the bowels. This is especially good for people who have occasional constipation.


Ingredients: 1 Medium Sweet Apple (chopped) 6-7 prunes (soaked in 12 oz water) 1/3 medium size beet root 1 tablespoon soaked Flax seeds or chia seeds (soaked for at least 1 hour)

Instructions: Blend all the ingredients in the water that the prunes were soaked in. Blend it on low for 10-15 seconds and then on high for 40-45 seconds (till everything is liquefied). Do not run the blender for too long as it will heat-up the contents of the smoothie and destroy some of the live enzymes that are a key to its nutrition and health benefits.

Prunes are well recognized for the ability to move the bowels. Buy prunes that are not "sulphured". Both Apples and beets are loaded with digestive enzymes and are great for chronic constipation symptoms.

Flax seeds are a great source of Omega 3 fatty acids and provide a lot of healthy fiber that helps in bowel movements. Soak a tablespoon of Flax seeds in 2 tablespoons of water 30 mins to 1 hour before using it in the smoothie.

Note: This smoothie can easily fill a 16 -20 oz jar. If planning to store, keep it in the refrigerator in a glass jar with a tight lid to avoid oxidation. This smoothie can easily last for up-to 36 hours.

Ideally have it as a replacement for night meal as it can easily fill you up.
