Grapefruits are very high in antioxidants such as vitamin C which is great for bringing down inflammation. Grapefruits are a rich source of pectin which helps in reducing the buildup of plaque inside the arterial walls. Pink Grapefruits contain lycopene which is known to have anticancer properties. Studies have shown that regular consumption of Grapefruits can lower the risk of diabetes in both men and women. Grapefruits are also shown to lower the high estrogen levels in women and hence helps in lowering the risk of breast cancer.
Regular consumption of Grapefruits have also shown to lower bad cholesterol. However, it is recommended that you don't eat/drink grapefruits if taking cholesterol lowering medications, as it neutralizes their effects. Grapefruit juice is also helpful is bowel movement especially when consumed first thing in the morning.
Ingredients:
1 Large Ruby red (or any other kind) Grapefruit
1 orange
1/4 Inch ginger
1/4 Lemon
Instructions:
Wash the Grapefruits and the orange thoroughly. Peel the skin of the grapefruit and orange in such a way that most of the whites (under the orange skin) are left on the fruit. The white part of the grapefruits (or any other citrus) contains lots of important nutrients and should not be discarded. Cut the peeled grapefruit & orange in quarters and run them through the juicer. Add ginger, followed by lemon.
You can a bit of black pepper and cayenne pepper (red chili powder) for a spicier version. Note: Fresh Citrus juice doesn't stores well, so drink the juice immediately for maximum benefit.
