This is our special occasion pick me up smoothie that tastes really great. As it is higher in caloric density, we typically give it to our son who is extremely active.
Ingredients:
1 large ripe banana
4 pitted dates
1 1/2 cup almond milk (Ideally home made)
1/2 teaspoon raw cacao nibs / powder (Optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Add all the ingredients in the blender. Blend it on low for 10-15 seconds and then on high for 30-45 seconds (till everything is liquified). Do not run the blender for too long as it will heat-up the contents of the smoothie and destroy some of the live enzymes that are a key to its nutrition and health benefits.
Note: If you do not have almond milk, simply blend 1 tablespoon of almond butter with 1 1/2 cups of water for 30 seconds. Your almond milk is ready.
This smoothie contains chalk full of nutrients and is my client's favorite pick-me-up drink. If you ended up making extra, simply freeze the leftover and have it as a desert in the evening with some chopped bananas or berries / nuts on top. You can also put it in the Popsicle molds and have a tasty summer guilt free treat for the whole family.
Note: This smoothie can easily fill a 16 -20 oz jar. If planning to store, keep it in the refrigerator in a glass jar with a tight lid to avoid oxidation. This smoothie can easily last for up-to 36 hours.
