Stuck at Home! Uplift yourself and others around you.

Updated: Sep 9, 2020

If you are stuck at home like millions of people around the world, don't let stress get to you. Do you know what is the sure shot recipe for getting stressed, depressed, angry, sad and frustrated? Sitting and worrying about our own wants and desires - what about me, my family, my job, my health - my this and my that? This can take one into unending spiral from where it is difficult to get out. But you know, there is an easy way to get out of stress and misery. How you may ask? You do it by helping others who are in bigger mess than you are. The best way to do so is by uplifting someone's state of mind and making them feel happy so they don't get pulled down by every day stresses. At the simplest level, even calling someone who is having a rough time and bringing a smile on their face is worth a lot. The more we are able to serve and help others, the more our own life gets enriched with happiness and peace.

Test it out: For the next 10 days, spend just a little time daily bringing a help different people everyday (without expecting anything in return) and see how it makes you feel.

Here is my daily list to keep my body and mind happy and healthy.

  • I write health promoting blogs with tips and tools to improve health and wellness. I also take nutritional classes via zoom for children. I also volunteer my time in helping organize breathing and meditation workshops.

  • I eat a very high nutrient rich diet (lots of fruits and vegetables) daily to boost my immunity.

  • I keep my self in a calm and peaceful state by daily meditating twice (morning and evening).

  • I eliminate stress and increase my energy levels with breathing exercises (I practice Sudharshan Kriya (SKY) breathing exercise every morning). If you have stress in your life - nothing better than learning and practicing SKY. It removes deeply held stresses, anxiety worries and lessens the impact of painful memories. it's positive impact continues to grow as you practice it daily.

  • Spending some time moving my body daily through a practice of simple yoga asanas (postures).

Note: There are certified yoga teachers who are offering free yoga classes online (including my own yoga teacher). Take advantage of these classes.

  • Getting enough fresh air and sunlight daily through gardening and watering. I grow different types of fruits and veggies in my backyard garden.

  • I spend quality time with family and also keep in close touch with friends who are a source of wisdom and inspiration for me.

  • Most importantly, I spend some time alone reflecting on "who I am" and "what is my purpose" in this beautiful planet. These questions help me avoid running after unnecessary and never ending desires and keeps me grounded.
