Yoga - My commitment to health! By Milauni Nagar - Certified Yoga Instructor

It’s an honor to be invited by my dear friend Syed to write this guest post on his thriving blog, he has been a shining inspiration to many including myself, and his story, his journey has been as transformational as mine, taking one day at a time to get healthier, stronger and wiser! As I work with myself and many others, I find that each of us, many conscious and some in their sub-conscious mind strive to achieve wisdom, moving towards light and moving towards knowledge… our bodies are wonderful gifts, and obviously I have found the mind interrelated.

Ever ate a meal loaded with fats and or sugar and noticed how you feel and function in your mind after? Well such was my path to light, coming to live here in the states, a place where the food, people, lifestyle and even the weather is completely different, it became very easy for me to sink into depression, anxiety and sadness. I ate the wrong foods… cooked without knowing, used ready to eat canned, frozen, packaged and processed foods. Now it seems like another lifetime but it was true and this obviously aggravated my downward sloping emotional state of mind! In just few months, without realizing, I found myself 25 pounds heavier with constant body aches / pains, and falling sick without notice. My blood test indicated higher cholesterol, blood sugar and so many other the deficiencies!

And then came HATHA YOGA! The yoga of determination, the yoga of strength, of courage and of valor… I took a program that an angel recommended. It might sound a bit cliched, but it did ended up changing my whole life. I found new respect for my body and above all my mind! The work of the “Asanas” (Yoga poses) on the physical level integrated with my determination to make the right choices the mental level. My mind became stronger and I instinctively knew what was good for me and what was not.

I cleared my refrigerator and pantry and made radical changes to my diet and lifestyle. Within a year I had lost 18 pounds and went down couple of dress sizes. Every morning, without a break, I would take out my yoga mat and do yoga asanas in the backyard with reverence to my body, gratitude to my strong mind and thankful to the Sun for the life force. I started running in the Californian summer and meditated under the moon. My next blood test shocked both my doctor and myself. My cholesterol levels had reversed, my vitamin D levels back on track and my immunity solid! … never in years had I felt this energized and ALIVE!

I donated all my old clothes that had become too big for me. Finally, I was at my target weight, size and health…I decided to learn yoga professionally and in time got certified as a Yoga Instructor. Now, I love sharing this wonderful knowledge with the world. I am so grateful to all those who has helped me on my journey including my wonderful Husband, my bestie Gayathri and all my friends, who have stood by me, encouraging me to get stronger and wiser each day! In gratitude to the universal force, Sincerely, Milauni.
